Birch Creek Development, a utility-scale solar and storage developer, is looking to expand its development team to complement its growing pipeline of projects. Founded in 2019, Birch Creek has developed and placed in-service 28 projects representing 315MW. With an active pipeline of over 5GW, Birch Creek is hiring a Project Development Manager to execute on its existing pipeline and continue to add to it.
As a Project Development Manager at Birch Creek, the ideal candidate would be responsible with developing solar and storage projects from cradle to operation. The role would require the simultaneous development of 8-12 projects, depending on market and complexity. The right candidate will be someone who has sound industry and project development knowledge, superior communication skills, and the ability to understand how minute details impact project development in the long run. The role requires strong initiative and the ability to work cross functionally across the organization. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage and lead development activities for solar and storage projects by leveraging internal teams and external subject matter experts in areas including site acquisition, real estate and title, engineering, origination, policy, and interconnection
- Perform site diligence by reviewing environmental, utility, and other databases and reports
- Negotiate and secure leases, easements, and other real estate documents for the successful completion of the project
- Complete permitting and entitlements, including zoning, by preparing and submitting applications, managing the development of site layouts, and attend and present at public meetings
- Navigate and understand the interconnection process from submittal to final agreement
- Maintain key project data using cloud-based document management, relational databases, and reporting tools. Key project data management could include:
- Onboarding new projects into data systems
- Maintaining projections of upcoming payments, project budgets, and cash forecasts
- Tracking interface with external stakeholders including landowners, consultants, utilities, permitting authorities, etc
- Create and manage project and market dashboards and reports with status of development activities for distribution to the market team and executive team
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree focused on energy, environmental, business or engineering industries
- Work experience in energy, environmental, or engineering industries is a plus
- Strong work ethic and ability to self-start in a fast-paced environment
- Results driven and solutions oriented
- Strong organization, communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work with little supervision and to seek help when needed
